Azobé wood is one of the most sustainable types of wood in the world and is frequently used in construction, industry and civil engineering. The wood is known for its excellent properties and has proven to belong to sustainability class one for heartwood and class two for transition wood. The heartwood has a fresh reddish-brown color that can turn dark red to chocolate brown over time, sometimes even to a violetish dark reddish brown. In addition, Azobé wood contains striking white-yellow substances in the barrels, which contributes to its unique appearance. This type of wood is resistant to attack by shipworm in brackish and salt water, as well as to acids and other chemicals.

Despite the hardness of Azobé, the wood can still be machined quite easily. Due to the strong cross grain, machine planing requires a small rake angle to obtain a smooth surface. Dry processing has a clear dulling effect on saws and chisels.

The stock of Azobé round wood consists entirely of FSC® certified round wood. We saw the round wood to size especially for you (cutlery). This means that we can meet your demand for sustainably produced hardwood with certificate or without certificate. In addition, it is also possible to combine different dimensions of wood with fast delivery times.
As of January 1, 2012, Azobé can be supplied with CE marking according to the NEN 5493 or B(ritish) S(tandard) standard. From January 1, 2012, it will often be mandatory to affix a CE mark to construction timber. The purpose of the CE mark is to remove restrictions on trade within the European Union. With the CE marking, Boogaerdt Hout declares that the product meets the provisions of the reference documents (conformity) and that it can therefore be traded anywhere in the European economic area.
Azobe is shipped as logs and in various cutlery sizes from West Africa to Europe. The logs are mainly used to saw heavy and longer specifications that cannot be sawn by the sawmills in the countries of origin. Below is an overview of the standard gross sizes that we have in stock.
